A wide Snake River waterfall whose appearance changes dramatically with snowmelt and water management.
Shoshone Falls spans a broad ledge in the Snake River canyon near Twin Falls. The city gives its dimensions as 212 feet tall and 900 feet wide. Developed viewpoints bring the scene close to parking, while the canyon-rim trail offers additional angles on the river and the surrounding basalt walls.
Timing matters here more than a postcard suggests. Spring snowmelt generally delivers the strongest flow, while summer irrigation and upstream reservoir management can substantially reduce the water. In autumn the falls may appear nearly dry. Use the city’s current information and live-view link to set realistic expectations before making a special trip. The park has stair-free waterfall viewpoints, and the nearest parking is only a short walk from the main platform. Road conditions can still interrupt access, so check before descending into the park.
